A fast telephoto zoom lens like this will always find favour with professional photographers. The f/2.8 maximum aperture allows full control over depth-of-field to really help you separate your subject from the background.

Who is it for?

Like the other 70-200mm lenses in the range, the EF70-200mm f/2.8L USM is a lens that covers a multitude of uses. Portraits, landscapes, sport and wildlife all fall within range of this lens.

Key features

  • Lens construction: 18 elements in 15 groups
  • Diagonal angle of view: 34°-12°
  • Focus adjustment: Inner focusing system with USM
  • Closest focusing distance: 1.5m/4.9ft
  • Zoom system: Rotating type
  • Filter size: 77mm

A constant f/2.8 maximum aperture means that no matter what focal length you choose, you’ll have great low light performance and the ability to capture what available light there is. The lens also gives you the ability to tightly control the depth-of-field in your images.

Four ultra-low dispersion (UD) elements help ensure that aberrations are minimised effectively for high image quality. As with all lenses in the L series this lens produces results with both high resolution and high contrast.

The ring-type USM autofocus motor provides fast, quiet autofocus and the inner focusing system improves the handling of the lens by not changing length when zooming.

The lens can also be used with both the EF 1.4x II and EF 2x II extenders to provide a 98-280mm f/4 and 140-400mm f/5.6 lens respectively. In both cases all AF points will still function with all EOS cameras.

  • USM autofocus

A ring-type USM autofocus motor means you can focus quickly, near-silently and with precision. It also provides full-time manual focus so that you can adjust the focus with the focus ring, without first having to switch the lens to manual focus. This allows you to adjust the focus accurately to ensure it is exactly where you want it to be for the most creative control possible.
