Three Spine-chilling Films to check out this Halloween

With children planning what costumes to buy for trick-or-treating and parents stocking up on sweets for ‘little monsters’ to come knocking on their door, we take a look at 3 amazing films you should check out this Halloween.

Halloween is a holiday period commonly celebrated across the world on October 31st. Originally part of pagan harvest festivals, in modern times it has become a much celebrated holiday within the UK and includes activities such as trick-or-treating, costume parties and bonfires. Of course, the film industry has also inspired a whole range of new Halloween attractions around the world fuelling anticipation for the date, and today we will be taking a look at three of the very best chilling horror scenes from some of the greatest ever horror movies.

If you are counting down the days to Halloween and are planning a night in, then, be sure to hit up the following Halloween movies of which are sure to send a chill down your spine:

The Shining

Stanley Kubrick’s ‘The Shining’ is perhaps the greatest horror movie of all time. The scene you want to check out for some spine-chilling fun is when ‘Johnny’ portrayed by the brilliant Jack Nicholson takes an axe to the bathroom door of where his wife and son are hiding from his madness. It isn’t the axe-wielding which makes the scene such a terrifying moment however, but rather the build up to that moment where we see Jack Nicholson’s mind slowly fade in to craziness. This movie is best observed at home on DVD or Blu-Ray.

The Silence of the Lambs

For the ultimate in psychological scares you can always rely on The Silence of the Lambs to get people covering their eyes with a cushion. Anthony Hopkins plays Dr. Hannibal Lecter whom is a cannibal. An educated man with a keen taste for incredibly blue meat, FBI agent Clarice Starling must try and suss out exactly what goes through this killers mind with a series of interviews. It isn’t light on action, however. This movie is best enjoyed on the couch on DVD or Blu-Ray.

A Nightmare on Elm Street

Freddy Krueger is perhaps the scariest of household monsters to have ever graced cinema. In this film debut, a group of teenagers find themselves all dreaming about a scarred man with razor sharp fingers, who can kill them in their dreams. With the majority of people getting brutally murdered throughout the film, it becomes a race against time for lead-characters to devise a plot to defeat Freddy before the next person dies. As you will find out in the film, however, this proves far harder than they originally thought.
