Why not opt for the Sony PXW-FS7 & PXW-FS7K cameras?

pxw-fs7k

What's on offer?

The PXW-FS7K is easy to handle and operate, thanks to its unique ergonomic grip, making it the perfect choice for one-man operation. Whether you're shooting in 4K**60p or full HD, this camera lets you enjoy high frame rates of up to 180 frames per second. Thanks to its flexible mount lens system, you can interchange compatible lenses to suit your shooting requirements and location, so this camera really can do more than its competitors. Purchasing an optional extension unit means you can also enjoy multi-camera shooting when needed.

Why choose the PXW-FS7 or PXW-FS7K?

You can trust Sony to be pioneers when it comes to technology, and couple that with the reliability of the brand and you know you have a 35mm camera that won't let you down. Professional camera operators need the very best equipment, and these two cameras represent excellent value for money, with every feature you could possibly need to shoot your documentary, film or biography.

Extra features

Consider purchasing the Sony XDCA-FS7 Extension Unit, which is compatible with both cameras and is easy to attach using a MultiPin connector, which means no trailing cables and wires. With additional I/O connectors such as Genlock and Timecode, multi-camera operation is a breeze. The extension unit also et you record 12-bit RAW footage using the AXS-R5.

Should you buy the body with lens?

It's totally a personal decision whether to buy the camera body alone or go for a body and lens package, and it will depend on your budget and which type of lens you're looking for. The PXW-FS7K is often packaged with and SELP28135G 35mm full frame powered zoom lens, so if this suits your shooting needs, it can often be an opportunity to get better value for money by purchasing your camera body and lens together. This also means you'll only need to deal with one supplier should anything go wrong with your equipment and you need to make a warranty claim. Other advantages of buying the body with lens are that you don't have to spend time hunting for compatible lenses – your time could better be spent shooting on location!

Ultimately it's your decision which camera best suits your professional needs, but these are two of the best 35mm Sony camera around today.

What’s the Big Deal with a Sony camcorder? pxw-x160

Just because the Sony PXW-X160is smaller does not mean that it lacks any less of a punch.

This Sony camcorderis capable of filming in both Full HD XAVC Intra and XAVC Long GOP recordings, meaning that is contains a lot more technology per inch then some of its larger rivals. This Sony comes with three 1/3" Xmor CMOS sensors, and a new, high-quality G-lens with a 25x zoom, marking it apart from the latest trends of having single sensor cameras.

It is true however, that high quality optical components are pointless if the images that they then produce are roughly compressed. In order to avoid this Sony has recently started adding higher bitrates and intra-frame encoding to some of their professional Sony Camcorders.  The PXW-X160 has an overabundance of codecs, including the H.264-based XAVC. It can also record at up to 112 Mbit/s, with a 4:2:2 10 bit image sampling and with intra-frame compression. Alternatively, Long-GOP compression is also available at 50/35 and 25 Mbit/s with the Sony PXW-X160.

On top of everything I have mentioned above, the Sony PXW- X160 is also capable of filming in MPEG HD 422 50 Mbps MPEG HD 420 35 Mbps, AVCHD and DV, making it ideal for a wide range of applications from education/videography to broadcast. This camcorder is highly versatile, making it a top pick for freelance broadcasters.

As the successor of the HVR-Z7 and HXR-NX5, the PXW-X160 has a lot of attractive features which adds to its versatility. Features including dual SxS memory card slots and a G Series fixed 25x HD zoom lens with 26mm wide angle and variable ND filter which can provide four conventional mechanical 4 ND filter positions or a linear switch dial, giving you more control in changing light conditions. This means that you have the capability to smoothly adapt your camera to the shooting conditions that may occur on location.

The PXW-X160 is a cheaper alternative to the PMW-X180 but omits certain features including wireless functionality, NFC and GPS, lowering the price for users who do not need or are not looking for these features. This smaller Sony camcorder gives you a high versatility in recording formats without having to reduce the amount of visual equipment included within the machine itself.

When it was first released, the PXW-X160 Sony camcorder came with the newly developed 25x optical zoom G Lens with 26 mm wide angle. This lens provides more than enough range to give you the ability to shoot in a variety of different locations.

So if you are looking for a professional camcorder that offer a wide range of recording formats and codecs in one easily transportable package then the PXW-X160 is the camera for you.

Advances in Live Broadcast Equipment: Announcing the New XT2000 Video Switcher HVS XT2000 Video SwitcherWhen it comes to broadcast equipment, the XT2000 video switcher helps a studio engineer to select between a variety of video sources and mix them together, creating special effects. This is the simplistic explanation, but this video switcher has some ground breaking features using technology that has never been used in the past by operators. There are several features that are exclusive and can elevate a professional allowing them to do an incredible job on their production job. MELite is one such exclusive feature which enables the traditional AUX bus to transform, making it functional so it will mix, cut and wipe.

Running on a V6 XT2K engine, the XT2000 video switcher is ready for HD, SD and Full HD which equates to 4K production. Mixers generate a variety of transitions from dissolves to pattern wipes and perform key operations to generate colour signals. Vision mixers have video connections and use SDI. With live television and video tape recording, video servers help to enable linear video editing with the right broadcast equipment.

The XT2000 video switcher has been said to have production capabilities that make it comparable to a fully functional 6 M/E switcher that has a 3 M/E/ panel. An additional M/E panel can be added to include another operator, including the power of a second switcher in a separate location, all connected to a V6 XT2K engine. This switcher is cost effective, adding the necessary versatility to allow operators to have increased power and to display independently in on stage monitor display control.

This video switcher has ONStage which is a technology that has been recently developed and is designed for staging events where a variety of images are magnified and displayed (conference, church) each with their own transition. Operators are able to mix, DVE, key and wipe all changes with a complete preview control that is connected to the transition area within the lever area. Operators can take a lot more artistic control and have more power when they are working with video switching using the XT2000 video switcher.

Additional flexibility is provided through FLEXaKey which is another feature exclusive to the XT2000 video switcher. This allows an operator to personalise their production requirements by allowing them to add and move a key and DVE layers to their traditional M/E resources. It also allows operators to multiply layers, selecting them and graphics as they are needed.

This new switcher device has a four channel media player that can store clips and images and back them up in a memory. There is a panel snap shot recall and a sequence and macro memory recall. This is simply called “Midas Touch” and is a system that allows the operator to easily configure changes and have full control of the system. The switcher has synchronizers for frames on every input and includes a frame grab to capture images through any input. SD to HD migration can be re-sized with the included re-sizer. There are 12 keyers in the system and there are 12 floating 2.5 D and 3D DVE effects. Multi-viewers can be user configured with the XT2000 video switcher. The control panel is easy to operate and highly functional and features crystal clear OLED source name displays. The device has many colour LED buttons and features a touch screen menu with remote options.

It has a wide range of innovative new features that make this Sony camcorder a market leader and a great buy for consumers starting to edge into professional shooting and professionals looking for a good event camera. Often described as the first prosumer camcorder with full-frame capabilities, this is truly a groundbreaking innovation.

The Nex-VG900 Pro has added a pro audio microphone kit to the Nex-VG900 Sony Camcorder, boosting the captured sound quality when using this Sony camcorder. It can record sound in high quality stereo and 5.1 surround sound without the need for additional separate microphones and audio equipment, producing a sound track that sounds amazing on a home cinema system.

The Nex-VG900 boasts a full-frame sensor with 24.3 effective megapixels, accurately reproducing tonal gradations and giving beautiful, true-to-life images with the full frame capability to capture more of the shot. It has interchangeable lenses, using a LA-EA3 lens adaptor to allow easy use of the lenses in the Sony A-mount line and the E-mount line with internal zoom drive, allowing you to choose the perfect lens for your subject and giving amazing creative control. In addition it supports recording HD videos in 25p, 50i, 50p and the movie standard 24p frames per second, giving the scope to shoot anything from classic movies to action films.

This award-winning Sony camcorder has comprehensive manual controls, allowing easy control of aperture priority, shutter speed priority and manual exposure via direct keys that have been carefully designed and positioned for optimum accessibility. Canon EOS 6D – the new canon entry level full frame DSLR professional camera eos_6dThe Canon EOS 6D, along with the Nikon D600, represent a new market segment in professional cameras, the mid range full frame DSLRs. While the Canon EOS 6D has some great features, one of the most impactful of these may be its price, coming in at nearly £1000 cheaper than the Canon EOS 5D mark III.

Comparing it to it’s bigger, more expensive, brother gives an interesting picture. The Canon EOS 6D has 20.2m megapixels, while the Canon EOS 5D mark III has 22.3m megapixels, both of them with a full frame CMOS sensor. They have the same ISO range (100-25600 standard, 50-102800 expanded) but the Canon EOS 6D has 11 autofocus points, while the Canon EOS 5D mark III has a massive 61!

The viewfinder on the Canon EOS 6D is slightly substandard, giving only 97% visibility while the Canon EOS 5D mark III has full 100% visibility, and the Canon EOS 6D has only a single SD card slot for recording while the Canon EOS 5D mark III can accept compact flash as well.

Where the Canon EOS 6D really shines however is the weight, it’s a full 180 grams lighter than the Canon EOS 5D mark III, and also its ability to capture images in low light conditions – The Canon EOS 6D can capture images down to -3 EV, a full stop dimmer than the Canon EOS 5D mark III and equivalent to a night lit by a full moon.

Wifi and GPS have been integrated as standard into the Canon EOS 6D, while they are available as an additional extra on the Canon EOS 5D mark III, making the substantively lower price tag of the Canon EOS 6D even more attractive to the budget conscious photographer looking for a first professional camera. This gives the option of controlling the camera remotely via a smartphone, a feature which many photographers will find a useful additional to their arsenal of tools.

The silent shutter mode implemented in the Canon EOS 5D mark III has been replicated in the Canon EOS 6D for quieter, more discreet shooting, but there are other features of the Canon EOS 5D mark III which have been left off such as the ability to record data files in RAW format, including jpeg only. There’s no touchscreen which is more unusual as the Canon EOS 650D included this, and the Canon EOS 6D is essentially a full frame version of the Canon EOS 650D. It also misses out on on-chip phase detection to aid in autofocus while in live view or movie mode.

The Canon EOS 6D is a great professional camera, and a good addition to the Canon EOS range. It’s price makes it an attractive entry point into the full frame camera market, while retaining the familiarity of handling and use with the other professional cameras in the Canon EOS range.

These optional adapters provide flexibility when applications require a large studio lens, and camera operators want to maintain hard camera control. They facilitate simple connectivity without time-consuming wiring and adjustments.

Finally one of this Sony Video camera's amazing and highly advantageous features is its capability in long-distance transmission with any HDCU Camera Control Unit.

TV Logic HD Monitors - Broadcast Equipment With Options TV Logic MonitorFor those who need reliable broadcast equipment, TVLogic has been putting out reliable monitors for many years now. Those who have had experiences with TVLogic monitors find that they really like them as they are a reliable workhorse. The weight of these monitors is quite light and this makes them easier to mount onto the camera.

TVLogic Monitors – Set Up Options

There are several TVLogic monitors to choose from, three are commonly used today. The monitor is cost-effective and provides great picture performance. The high resolution on the screen makes detail in images a lot more noticeable. Focus checking is simplified, especially when one is shooting in 4K.

There is a feature called the 058W which is similar to previous models with the 056W. There are 3G HDSDI and HDMI inputs. The HDMI out is useful if you want to set up another monitor feed or if you only have a SDI or a single HDMI output.

The Vectorscope and Waveform displays provide exposure control with a side luma zone which provides for over range error checking and a false colour. The focus assist helps to provide critical focus and a zoom mode where the picture can be checked for focus. The overscan/underscan modes provide the normal aspect ratio markers with safe area overlays. For those DSLR shooters, the monitors allow one to take their output from it and scale the images so that they fill the screen.

Size Choices

Currently available is the 55”, the 46” and the 42”. These are all great choices; it is a matter of need as well as personal taste. These monitors have three assignable function buttons. Instead of going into a menu to assign functions that are used often, one just needs to press and hold the button down.

Once a few seconds have passed, there is a drop down menu that appears containing all available options which allows the user to scroll through to the function they want using a scroll wheel, then pressing it to select that function. This makes it simple to change assigned functions as needed.

The next noticeable difference between monitor sizes is the size of the image. The smaller monitors do not provide as sharp and clear an image because of the size of the screen that displays the image. The colours of all sizes of monitor are accurate.

If you wish you can makes use of the calibration utility that is available on all models and sizes of monitor. The display settings once calibrated can be saved as an LUT within the monitor. The LUT capabilities can prove extremely useful for those shooting with Log.

What is the Weight Range?

Another serious difference between the 55”, 46” and 42” monitors is the weight of the monitor. The 55” is 57.5 kgs, the 46” is 43.0 kgs and the 42” is 30.2 kgs. The weight of these monitors can make a significant difference, depending upon the set up that you use with your broadcast equipment.

One can also playback recent recordings quickly with the built in speaker for audio monitoring and the headphone jack. If it is preferable to monitor audio levels visually, on screen audio meters are also available. The monitors are designed with a magnesium alloy housing making them attractive and reliable. The button layout makes it simple for those who need a good broadcast equipment set up to access what is needed to get the work done easily.
